Sleeping Bags and Sleep Sacks vs. Sleeping Suits.

Basically this comes down to legs or no legs and what you and your little one will prefer.  Merino & Me stock a variety of both sleeping bags and sleeping suits, as well as in various weights.

The legs in the sleep suits mean your little one is ready to go.  It can be worn as a cozy onesie during the day, as well as offering a safe sleep solution for babies who no longer want a sleeping bag. It will also give you peace of mind that they won’t trip over.

I went through a stage where my almost 1 year old was constantly standing up in his cot, every time he woke up he would stand up.  During this time I put him in a sleep suit with legs. It meant he could stand up safely in his cot.

Doona / Duvet Weight

These colder months the duvet Woolbabe is an absolute must!!  These bad boys are just so snuggly.

These are perfect for bedrooms that drop under 20 degrees during the night. Just by varying the clothing underneath the suit they can be used in rooms ranging from 14 to 22 degrees.  Depending on where you live, these are perfect for autumn through to spring. Though, all the Melbourne dwellers out there will know we have some pretty cool nights in summer too!

These sleeping bags are filled with a luxuriously toasty merino wool filling, the inside lining is a quilted soft organic cotton.  The outer layer is the gorgeous merino / organic cotton blend fabric that Woolbabe has become famous for.  The duvet Woolbabe sleep sack has the snuggly feeling of being under a quilt or layers of woollen blankets, however they have been designed with your baby’s safety in mind.

I don’t know about you, but I always find it stressful trying to work out what to dress my baby in for bedtime.  All Woolbabe products come with a handy free room thermometer and clothing guide, to help make dressing your baby simple and stress-free.

However, we have also provided a rough guide below:

  • 20 - 22 degrees: Long-sleeve bodysuit + duvet Woolbabe
  • 18 - 20 degrees: Long-sleeve bodysuit + pants (or onesie) + duvet Woolbabe
  • 16 - 18 degrees: Long-sleeve bodysuit + pants + extra top + wool socks + duvet Woolbabe
  • 14 - 16 degrees: Long-sleeve bodysuit + pants + two extra tops + wool socks + duvet Woolbabe

Merino & Me also stock the duvet weight sleep sack with sleeves (suitable for babies from 6 months), the addition of sleeves adds another layer for your baby - meaning in cooler temperatures you already have one extra layer on their little arms.

Three Season Weight

The 3-seasons, mid weight, Woolbabe is by far the most popular - it is just so versatile.  The temperature range that these sleeping bags are suitable for is so wide, they can be used in rooms from 18 to 28 degrees, just by varying the clothing under the sleep sack. These are also perfect for day sleeps at home or in daycare all year round.  In cooler climates these are perfect from spring through to autumn, but in warmer states these can be used all year round.

The 3-seasons Woolbabe sleep sacks are made from a double layer of Woolbabe’s famous merino wool / cotton blend. These 3-seasons Woolbabe's are so soft they are even suitable for babies with eczema or sensitive skin.

As a guide the 3-Season Sleep Sack clothing guide is:

  • 28 - 30 degrees: Nappy + 3 season Woolbabe
  • 26 - 28 degrees: Singlet + 3 season Woolbabe
  • 24 - 26 degrees: Short sleeve bodysuit + 3 season Woolbabe

Summer Weight Woolbabe

This sleeping bag is perfect for the warmer months, northern states in Australia and tropical holidays!

It can be used in rooms ranging from about 24 to 32 degrees in room temperature, just by varying the clothing inside the bag.

It is one lightweight layer of Woolbabe’s famous merino / organic cotton blend fabric.  It is so soft that it doesn’t feel itchy and scratchy even on bare skin.

Merino wool and cotton is the perfect combination for warmer climates - the benefits of merino are endless, but in warm weather they are especially important.  Merino reacts to changes in body temperature to help keep baby at a constant temperature all night  to support a good nights sleep.  Another great property of merino is its moisture absorption, Woolbabe sleep sacks will remain comfortable even if they get a little damp from a leaky nappy or sweaty baby.  100% cotton sleep sacks just feel cold when this happens. Merino wool’s moisture-licking properties will keep whatever leakage occurs away from your baby’s skin so they can blissfully sleep on (meaning you can too).

As a guide the summer sleep sack clothing guide is:

  • 30 - 32 degrees: Nappy + summer sleep sack
  • 28 - 30 degrees: Singlet + summer sleep sack
  • 24 - 28 degrees: Short sleeve bodysuit + summer sleep sack
