For starters, they are crafted using 70% Recycled Wool, and 30% Mixed Recycled Fibres. You may be wondering what is so special about recycled wool - or why recycled wool may be preferable over normal wool. The Tartan Blanket Co strived to design a blanket that was truly sustainable in every possible way. They pioneered their own process where recycled wool is blended with longer mixed fibres saved from landfill, to create a durable yarn which is then woven into a dense twill weave and brushed for texture. And yes - despite how recycled wool may sound, we promise it is still super soft and comfy to enjoy your picnic on. These picnic blankets boast all the wonderful benefits of wool - while being incredibly sustainable and gentle on the environment!
The blankets are also lined with a waterproof backing to protect both the blanket itself, and you, from any moisture or dirt while in use. This can be easily wiped down after use, or simply throw the blanket in the machine on a wool cycle and lay flat to dry.
The process of creating the blanket means there is a chance the pre-loved fibres may differ slightly in colour and design from blanket to blanket - it really just adds to the charm of these amazing products.
